There are many advantages of the radio controlled cars. It is cheaper than the hobby grade radio control car and easy to operate as it has lesser danger levels particularly on its speed rate as it is equipped with alkaline or NiCad batteries which are low voltage batteries and they are easier to set up than the ready to run hobby grade radio controlled cars. A biocompatibility study of aluminum nitride packaging for cortical implants. $49.99 The goal of all electrode-neural interface studies is to develop an electro-mechanical substitute for a neurological problem with as close to natural results as possible. One problem with current devices is long term biocompatibility because of the device encapsulation material. Aluminum nitride, a thin film produced using sputtering techniques and previously used for acoustic wave sensors, shows promise as a material for encapsulation. Aluminum nitride is well known as a wide bandgap semiconductor with very high thermal conductivity. It is known to exist in Wurtzite (Hexagonal) and Cubic crystal polyphases. Once produced, Aluminum nitride forms a natural oxide layer that protects it from many corrosive influences. It has generally been regarded as virtually biologically inert; however, the testing for its biochemistry and metabolism has been very limited. The purpose of this investigation was to test the biological response to an aluminum nitride film deposited on an on an aluminum coated silicon substrate. Aluminum nitride was deposited using a plasma source molecular beam epitaxal deposition. Aluminum nitride films were implanted on the surface of the cortex of rat brains and allowed to remain for 1, 2, 10 and 30 days. Borosilicate glass samples were implanted as controls. Tissue reactions were examined and specimens coated with aluminum nitride film exhibited equal or less tissue response than borosilicate glass control. This demonstrates that the aluminum nitride films have similar or better biocompatibility properties in a neural environment by promoting limited tissue reactivity. |

A customer programmable microfluidic system. $49.99 Microfluidics is both a science and a technology offering great and perhaps even revolutionary capabilities to impact the society in the future. However, due to the scaling effects there are unknown phenomena and technology barriers about fluidics in microchannel, material properties in microscale and interactions with fluids are still missing. A systematic investigation has been performed aiming to develop “A Customer Programmable Microfluidic System”. This innovative Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based microfluidic system provides a bio-compatible platform for bio-analysis systems such as Lab-on-a-chip, micro-total-analysis system and biosensors as well as the applications such as micromirrors. The system consists of an array of microfluidic devices and each device containing a multilayer microvalve. The microvalve uses a thermal pneumatic actuation method to switch and/or control the fluid flow in the integrated microchannels. It provides a means to isolate samples of interest and channel them from one location of the system to another based on needs of realizing the customers’ desired functions.;Along with the fluid flow control properties, the system was developed and tested as an array of micromirrors. An aluminum layer is embedded into the PDMS membrane. The metal was patterned as a network to increase the reflectivity of the membrane, which inherits the deformation of the membrane as a mirror. The deformable mirror is a key element in the adaptive optics. The proposed system utilizes the extraordinary flexibility of PDMS and the addressable control to manipulate the phase of a propagating optical wave front, which in turn can increase the performance of the adaptive optics.;Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) has been widely used in microfabrication for microfluidic systems. A medical robotic system for laser phonomicrosurgery. $49.99 Phonomicrosurgery is a suite of complex otolaryngological surgical techniques related to the vocal folds. The primary operative challenges involve size and scaleability particularly when the carbon dioxide surgical laser is the operative tool of choice. The prevalent traditional methodology for remote control of the surgical laser is the mechanical micromanipulator. This device is capable of accurate laser aiming but is prone to error resulting from inexperience and ergonomic factors. Extensive training is required to employ the manual micromanipulator effectively.;Many of the difficulties associated with use of the mechanical micromanipulator are rooted in the ergonomics of the device. By necessity it is located in a disadvantageous position, i.e., attached to the base of the surgical microscope. As a result, the clinician has no convenient way of steadying his/her hand while making the precise, delicate movements necessary to accurately and consistently aim the surgical laser. The fact that the required movements are relatively small in nature exacerbates the accuracy and consistency problem.;The purpose of this dissertation is to document the design, development and application of a medical robotic system intended to improve this man machine interface.
